On Thursday July 18 Brian Higdon from the Forget-Me-Not Campaign hosted a Golf Tournament at Humber Valley Resort to raise money for the continuing efforts to memorialize the veterans of Newfoundland from WW1 & 2. Colemans sponsorship included a beautiful cake decorated by Baker Extraordinaire Donna White from our Colemans Caribou Rd Bakery, a Marmot jacket from A.J’s for the silent auction, a sponsorship hole and a Welcome basket put together by Colemans Garden Market for the Ennis Sisters who are in town to perform for the event. Byron Bellows & I were invited to join a team for the tournament and it was a great day for a good cause.
The second phase of this event will take place on Friday July 19, at 2 pm the Grand Opening of “Come Home Year” being held at Grenfell University with the Forget Me Not team unveiling a bronze statue of Hugh McWhirter. He was the first causality in the first WW from NL. Hugh was from Humber Mouth. The Forestry Core who also fought in WW1 will unveil a park bench designed and sculpted by local renowned artist Morgan MacDonald who also sculpted the Danger Tree, which Princess Anne unveiled 2 years ago. The whole event will be hosted by Mark Critch and there is a planned high ranking military guest who is supposed to make an appearance.
